Spring 2024
For my final project at the University of Miami School of Architecture, I chose a site with which I am intimately familiar—the university’s own campus. The primary objective was to design a net-zero school that embodies sustainability and enhances campus life. This open-ended challenge allowed us to select the specific type of school, its location, size, and environmental context.

We decided to focus on the University of Miami School of Architecture, drawing from five years of personal experience on campus. The initial phase involved conducting a campus-wide survey to gather student insights on how to improve the environment. Responses highlighted the need for closer dining options near the School of Architecture, improved connectivity with other schools, additional studio spaces, quiet study areas, and a versatile indoor gathering space for student collaboration and idea exchange.

To leverage Miami’s favorable climate, we designed a series of interconnected buildings arranged along shaded walkways. These structures would accommodate studios, galleries, meeting rooms, study areas, and a dedicated student center. Incorporating native vegetation and water features contributes to passive cooling, promoting a sustainable and comfortable campus environment.
